I have had a diverse and varied work life, from being a part time DJ in my youth to fourteen years in the corporate sector. I began my professional career in the corporate world predominately working in Marketing both in Australia and the UK.
Having always had a strong desire to run my own business I later ventured out and started a retail pet store specializing in glamorous pet accessories. This enterprise was an incredible learning experience and started me on my own personal development journey. While running this business my interest turned to Life and Business Coaching.
I have been in private practice since 1999 with a few years hiatus while living in London. Upon my return to Sydney I returned to Private Practice. I enjoyed my work as a Life and Business Coach and found it rich and rewarding. However my experience with clients made me realize that so many people find it hard to move forward and focus on their goals when they are still carrying the wounds of painful childhoods and current life experiences. This is something I could relate to from my own lengthy experiences of healing from trauma. This path ultimately led me to becoming a Counsellor and Psychotherapist as I realized I could make a profound difference in people’s lives.
I furthered my training in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I understood that my real passion lay in helping and supporting those who are struggling with emotional pain, and who are often suffering alone with very little support. The clients I work with come to see me for a broad range of issues such as anxiety, depression, bereavement and grief, relationship and intimacy issues, addictions, body image, self worth, work and health issues and so much more. Clients come for very specific short term Counselling and also long term therapy.
I also do Couples Counselling and run a number of groups, workshops and seminars. With my Coaching experience I am able to help clients move forward in achieving their goals when they are ready to do so.
I have spent a number of years training to effectively help clients go beyond the pain of past trauma and have specialized skills in methods such as EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to specifically work with healing trauma and resourcing clients to live more fully in the present.
HOW I WORK
I work as a Counsellor and Therapist by adopting a holistic approach which means I view all parts of you as important – mind, body, spirit and emotions. A holistic approach looks at your overall physical and emotional health and well-being from all four of these components. I believe all these aspects are connected and to treat one without considering the impact and connection of the others would limit your healing.
I work in a very encouraging, gentle and supportive way providing you with a safe place for you to recover, heal and achieve your goals. When necessary I will challenge you in a firm way in order to support your growth and development.
My greatest gift is my intuition and my ability to really understand what you are experiencing. My clients often say to me they feel incredibly heard in their therapy with me and that they appreciate my ability to understand what is really going on inside them, even if they cannot fully articulate their own experiences. My greatest wish is, from this place, to help them move forward gently and with loving care.
Your safety is of primary importance to me and I work to ensure that you feel safe at all times. I will always treat you with sensitivity and respect and nudge you along when you need it.
Therapists use a variety of tools and techniques to help you to heal. There is no one size fits all when it comes to recovery and healing. I don’t do formula based counselling or operate solely from theoretical models. I treat you as an individual and work to meet your individual goals and needs. I work with you in a collaborative way so that we can discover together the best methods that allow you to heal and for you to lead a more fulfilling life.
I am a member of a professional body known as the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and operate under this body’s Code of Ethics and guidelines for practice.
In order to help you in the best way I can I’m committed to expand my knowledge by ongoing professional development. I attend regular workshops, lectures, seminars, webinars and subscribe to various professional magazines within Australia and overseas to ensure that my knowledge remains current and up-to-date.
